A noun clause is usead as a subject or an object. In other words, a noun clause is used in the same way as a "noun phrase". (a phraseis a group of words that does not contein a subject and a verb)
a)His history was interesing "His history" is a noun phrase
b)What he said was interesting "what he said" is a noun clause, It is used as the subject of the sentence, (thenoun clause has its own subject (he) and verb (said)
A noun clause has the same functions tha a noun has. A noun clause can be: 1.- subject of a verb 2.- Object of a verb 3.- subject complement 4.- object of a preposition 5.- adjective complement

What Billy did is the noun clause. as an object: Billy’s friends didn’t know that he couldn’t swim. that he couldn’t swim is the noun clause.
